description |
|
This exceptionally rare heteromorph ammonite was discovered by Mark Varah in 1986 and was one of only three he discovered collecting there for over 10 years. Mark wrote and collaborated on many scientific papers which has spanned over a fifty year period. His knowledge on ammonite collecting around the Gloucester/Oxfordshire areas is second to none. The ammonite sits in a highly fossiliferous piece of matrix. Such a rare specimen from a long lost locality. It resided in the late GORDON WALKDEN collection. Approximately 165 million years old. |
