This complete fir cone is totally complete and is approximately 260 million years old. It was discovered in a small stream section in the m id 1970's. This extremely rare example is an unrecorded from the marl slate beds of the Permian. The detail under magnification is absolutely superb. The cone even has it's attachment preserved where it attached itself to the branch. This stunning fir cone fossil resided in the GORDON WALKDEN collection. |
