description |
|
This huge Eurypterid tail was discovered by G Willis who has inscribed one side of the block. G. Willis was an important and prolific collector around this area. The specimen was purchased from him by the late GORDON WALKDEN and resided in his collection. Eurypterids are giant marine arthropods of a group occurring in the Palaeozoic era. They are related to horseshoe crabs and resemble large scorpions with a terminal pair of paddle shaped swimming appendages. Approximately 430 million years old. The detail on this large tail is incredible, especially under magnification. |
