description
Fossils Direct was the first to bring to the fossil community these predation marks on Promicroceras. Andy Cowap has been collecting hundreds of examples for over thirty years. The bite marks, always in the living chamber, would disable the ammonite and enable the fish (Dapedium or Furo) to eat the soft parts and the damaged shell would sink to the sea bed and be buried. This fine example has lodged against a piece of branch from the ancient Monkey Puzzle tree. These predation marks are incredibly interesting and a snapshot of time some 200 million years ago. Prepared by Andy Cowap.
