description |
|
Captured ! A moment in time when this ammonite came to rest on the sea floor overlapping a branch which was from the ancient Monkey Puzzle tree. Fossils of this calibre are few and far between, especially for sale on the open market. The ammonites have been preserved in various shades of yellow calcite. The branch is totally three dimensional and exhibits a couple of knots and superb graining throughout. A small Promicroceras planicosta ammonite also lies against the branch. Serious collectors will appreciate how rare these pieces are from this iconic fossil locality. The fossil itself was collected after a severe storm that lashed the coast in 1989 and dislodged this Woodstone nodule from the cliffs. Many hours of preparation has gone into this magnifient display fossil. Approximately 200 million years old. A one off.
