description |
|
This absolutely astonishing specimen has had all its outer shell carefully removed to reveal the transluscent calcite underneath. The ammonite'suture patterns are extraordinary and we've never seen anything like this before! Many painstaking hours have been spent on this incredible and one off fossil from a locality which has been lost in time, a small hand worked local quarry. The specimen was discovered around 1970 by the late John Huxtable and remained unprepared until recently. The ammonite has been left on a small piece of matrix which also has a flat base for upright display. Approximately 170 million years old. One for the discerning collectors of incredible preservation. Fossils Direct is a premium collectors website. The sutures are visible when a light source is shone behind the ammonitte. |
