description |
|
Again, we believe this is one of the finest Upper Lias Nautilus' to come off the Isle of Skye. Collected some twenty years ago we have not seen another one since. There is a partial Dactylioceras tenuicostatum in the Nautilus apperture. The erosion rate at this particular locality is virtually zero and so another Nautilus of this quality and size is very unlikely. The specimen itself has a perfect centre and the vast majority is solid Calcite. Serious collectors of fossil Nautiloids will appreciate the rarity of this beautiful specimen. Approximately 180 million years old. |
