description |
|
Collected in or around 1835, this specimen comes from the Kilsby Tunnel excavation. Kilsby tunnel was designed and engineered by Robert Stevenson for the London and Birmingham railway and was opened in 1838. The tunnel, at the time was the longest railway tunnel in the world. It is amazing to think that this specimen was a part of this historic feat of engineering. The specimen also has the original label attached to this quite stunning matrix free bivalve. |
