description |
|
The brick pits around the Peterborough area are sadly disappearing, due to the high costs of quarrying and the cheap import of bricks. This specimen was collected in the late 1990's and was in a pyrite encrusted nodule. It has taken a huge amount of hours to free this Plesiosaur vertebrae column from the surrounding matrix, but these were hours well spent as the work has revealed a fabulous three dimensional specimen. These creatures lived in the Jurassic seas and lived on fish and squid approximately 160 million years ago. This is a superb and highly sought after example. |
