This fantastic and complete Ichthyosaur paddle is 100% genuine and unlike most others you might see for sale, has not been "set in" and is not a composite from different creatures. The shale which surrounds the paddle has been strengthened to prevent it de-laminating. This wonderful paddle belonged to a juvenile ichthyosaur maybe around thirty inches long. The specimen was collected in 1993 after a stormy sea stripped the shale out to sea. Just the end of the humerus was sticking out of the shale and when prepared revealed this complete and rare fossil. This small paddle is certainly one for the serious collector of high quality UK fossils. Approximately 200 million years old. A unique item. |
