The fossil fish from the Scottish Highlands and islands are very sought after by collectors throughout the world. This is a good example of a "spiny shark" or Acanthodii which is an extinct genus of fish. The characteristic feature of these fish are the spines, which are more or less completely present on this example. A rare fish. Fossils Direct is a premium collectors website. |

This particular specimen was collected late last century. This is a large fish jaw with large and prominent teeth. The jaw really stands out from the surrounding matrix, which only adds to the overall aesthetics of this very rare and highly sought after fossil. |
