This very early sponge is approximately 445 million years old and shows lovely detail. On the reverse side of the specimen is the old victorian museum label, which is in superb condition. These bellerophontiform molluscs are much prized by collectors. Some scientists think there a mixture of gastropoods and monoplacophorans (an ancient group of untorted, limpet-like molluscs). This fossilised stromatolite is approximately 155 million years old and has been shaped into a polished cabachon. This unique specimen will make a wonderful piece of jewellery.
