This near complete Carpoid has been preserved along with its counterpart, which is an unusual occurrence and highly aesthetic. This fossil was discovered in 1970 and resided in the late professor GORDON WALKDEN collection. The detail on the carpoid is very nice. One for the discerning collector. Carpoids are a member of an extinct group of unusual Echinoderms and are approximately 460 million years old. Unlike other Echinoderms, the Carpoids display no radial symmetry. |

This extraordinary example has wonderful surface details and is virtually complete. The specimen itself was collected in 1967 and has resided in the late professor GORDON WALKDEN collection. Carpoids are a member of an extinct group of unusual echinoids approximately 460 million years old. Unlike other echinoderms, the carpoids display no radial symmetry, nor do they seem to have a water vascular system. One for the discerning collector of extremely rare Scottish material. |
