  This specimen is an exceptionally large Aptychus, which is part of the opening mouth of an ammonite. This particular specimen is from the geological department of the University of Sheffield as stated on the label that accompanies the specimen. A very fine and probably unrepeatable specimen. One for the specialist collector of ammonites.

These rare, open crystal chambers are rare and will make very aesthetic natural display pieces around the house. This fossil was discovered in 1991 and is approximately 200 million years old.
