  This incredible 325 year old fossil millipede has been preserved in a half nodule. The detail on the millipede's segmented body is absolutely magnificent and there is some evidence, under magnification of soft body preservation. The specimen was discovered in 1999 and has resided in the late professor GORDON WALKDEN collection ever since. This open cast quarry closed down and back filled over a decade ago. Only very few millipedes' were found at this now world famous carboniferous locality. One for the serious and discerning collector. Fossils Direct is a premium colletors website.

  This armoured fish belongs to the Placoderm family which is approximately 385 million years old. The fossil skull exhibits an arial view, so you are looking down on the roof of the skull. Each plate has tiny distinct pores on its head armour, this is not present in any placodermi which can be found nearby. The surrounding matrix has been squared off.   This beautifully preserved specimen has lovely pathology near its aperture, the shell is all buckled and twisted, which is fairly rare for Barton shells, this is the first we have come across.   This absolutely stunning solid calcite ammonite has been professionally cut and polished, which has taken many hours to achieve this mirror finish. The internal chambers have colours ranging from yellows, purple, pinks and greens, and the few open chambers are packed with thousands of tiny calcite crystals. These quality ammonites from this iconic fossil locality are becoming incredibly scarce to obtain thesedays, due in part to the closure of the quarry over 18 years ago now.
