description |
|
This extremely rare oolithic, Syke ammonite was discovered in 1986 and maybe a dozen have been found since. The ammonite itself was rescued from the harsh tides which would have smashed it to pieces and therefore lost forever. The solid calcite specimen has been fully prepared and lies on an aesthetic piece of matrix which has a level base for display purposes. Approximately 175 million years old. Fossils are incredibly scarse to find at this locality nowadays. |
